Kindergarten:

• Friday, June 3rd from 5:00-6:30 PM - Clark Street Beach

End the year with pizza, drinks and beach fun for all Kindergarten families! Beach passes are free to all Evanston residents.

1st Grade:  

• Tuesday, May 17th at 6:00pm - Lighthouse Beach Meetup and Fire Pit

S'mores and Firewood will be supplied. Bring a blanket/sweatshirt as temps will drop after sunset.  Families are welcome to come early and have a picnic dinner. *The water will be closed on this date*

2nd Grade:  

• Sunday, May 15, 2022 - 10-12 AM - Penny Park

Let's Celebrate Spring Together!  Join fellow Dewey 2nd grade families for donuts and fun at Penny Park! We are excited to be able to gather together as a community. We'll have donuts and beverages, and look forward to seeing everyone! Please note: this is not a drop-off event.  See flyer HERE.

3rd Grade:

• Friday, May 6th **Due to rain forecast, rescheduled for Wednesday, May 11** at 6:00pm - Lighthouse Beach Meetup and Fire Pit

4th Grade:

Let’s "Welcome Summer" Together!  Music | Friends | Shaved Ice | Fun.  Join fellow Dewey 4th graders and their families for a casual, summer-themed evening at Mason Park! Between 5-6pm students can enjoy a tasty complimentary shaved ice treat from the Kona Ice truck. Please note: this is not a drop off event.  See flyer HERE.

5th Grade:

• Saturday, May 21 - 5:30-7:00 PM - Nichols Middle School Field 

Join us for a casual meet up of incoming sixth graders and parents from Dewey, Lincoln and Washington Elementary Schools.  BYO refreshments and games to share and play with others.  See flyer HERE. 

• Wednesday, May 25 - 9 AM-8 PM - CAMP DEWEY - Dewey Elementary School

Kids will enjoy a day of outdoor learning activities during school followed by volunteer led games, arts and crafts, food and more.  Sign Up to help HERE.

Dewey Fun Run is Coming: Friday, May 20th 5:30-7:30 PM

Hello Dewey Tigers!! The Fun Run is Dewey’s largest fundraiser and super fun community event.  We are thrilled to come together again as we return to gather and celebrate in person on May 20 from 5:30-7:30PM.  There will be a 1/8th of a mile running course set-up in the field where all students are encouraged to run for their personal best PLUS games, food and more. Event contribution of $5 per person or $20 per family is suggested, but not required to attend.  We can’t wait to see everyone there. 

Look for an info flyer in your child’s backpack including a paper pledge form to collect lap sponsors and contributions or you can register your runner and create a personal fundraising page to share with family and friends HERE.

2022-2023 PTA Leadership Committee - Volunteers Urgently Needed ^UPDATED

Here are 3 very important roles that are still vacant for next year and WE NEED YOU!  They are tasks that require a computer and internet access.

Website Support 

• Work to update content and do periodic additions to the Dewey PTA Website
• 5-10 hours in August
• 2 hours per month September-May

Graphic Designers

• Create weekly or bi-monthly newsletter to be shared with the entire Dewey community via email
• 1-2 hours per newsletter

Social Media Administrators

• Post regular communications on the Dewey PTA Facebook page and Dewey Tiger Talk on Slack

We are also still seeking volunteers to lead the Communications and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB) committees.  PLEASE reach out if you are interested in participating as a leader of our PTA and bringing more diverse voices to this community building and enriching work.    

Following are the volunteers committed to positions for next year.  We will vote on the slate at the May 24th PTA meeting.

D65 Native Plant Sale ^NEW

The first annual in-person PTA Equity Project's Native Plant Sale will be held this Saturday, May 14 from 10am to 1pm at the District 65 warehouse (2017 Greenleaf St., Evanston). Many native plants, shrubs and trees will be available for purchase, and pick up is available for all who pre-ordered. Proceeds from this district-wide plant sale helps fund every District 65 school via the One Fund Initiative.

D65 PTA PEP Fest

Dewey is signed up to host a table at PEP Fest on Saturday, June 4th.  We are looking for volunteers to work 1-1/2 hour shifts between 10:30 am-6pm.   We will have a table, sell spirit wear, perhaps sell a snack or drink, and provide some kind of art/ craft/ activity for free to fest attendees.  All ideas are being considered at this time.  Additionally, if you are a business owner/ artist, etc we invite you to participate as a vendor, sponsor, collaborator, or raffle donor. Dewey Doers Diaper Drive Follow-Up ^NEW

Here is the note we received from Bundled Blessings for the amazing work done by our community and the Dewey Doers:

"Wow!  The Dewey community made a wonderful contribution to Bundled Blessings!  Please extend our sincere thanks to everyone who donated diapers and to the group who came today to pack.  You were awesome!  The Diaper Drive brought in 1,856 diapers which will be repackaged and sent out to families in need.  The Packing Team today worked so hard and ended up packing 11,030 diapers into 239 bundles!!  Woohoo!!  That is more than half the bundles needed for this month!"

Kinder:

• Viernes 3 de junio de 5:00-6:30 pm - en la playa Clark 

Vamos a celebrar el final de año con pizza, bebidas y diversión en la playa con las otras familias de kindergarten.  Los pases para la playa están disponibles gratuitamente para los residentes de Evanston y se pueden obtener con anticipación en los centros comunitarios. 

Primer grado:  

• Martes 17 de mayo a las 6:00 pm en la playa de Lighthouse Beach. 

Habrá una fogata.  Se proporcionará la leña y los S'mores. Se recomienda que lleven cobijas o sudaderas ya que la temperatura baja cuando cae el sol.  Las familias están invitadas a llegar más temprano para cenar.  * la playa está cerrada en esta fecha*. 

Segundo grado:  

• Mayo 15, 2022 - 10-12 AM - Penny Park

Celebremos el poder juntarnos con las personas con donuts, bebidas, y diversión! Por favor conéctese con su coordinador de aula si tiene preguntas. ¡Esperamos verlos a todos! Para ver el volante:  AQUÍ.

Tercer grado:

• Viernes 6 de mayo  **Por pronóstico de lluvia, reprogramado para el miércoles 11 de mayo** a las 6:00 pm. en el firepit de la playa Lighthouse.

Cuarto grado:

• Viernes 13 de mayo - 5:00-6:30 PM - Mason Park

¡Le damos la bienvenida al verano!  Música | Amigos | Raspados | Juegos.  Únase a otros estudiantes y familias del cuarto grado de Dewey para celebrar el fin del año escolar con juegos y otras diversiones. Entre las 5 y las 6 de la tarde, la camioneta de “Kona Ice” les daría a los estudiantes un raspado gratis.  Las familias tienen que estar con sus hijos durante el evento. Para ver el volante:  AQUÍ.

Quinto grado:

• Sábado 21 de mayo - 5:30-7:00 PM -  en el campo de la  Escuela Secundaria  Nichols  

Están invitados todos los estudiantes de las escuelas  Dewey, Lincoln y Washington que empiezan sexto grado a una reunión para conocer otros estudiantes.   Cada quien lleva su picnic y juegos para compartir.  Para ver el volante:  AQUÍ.

• Miércoles 25 de mayo de 9 AM- PM - En el campo de la escuela Dewey

Los niños disfrutarán de actividades educativas al aire libre y después habrá juegos, actividades de arte, comida y más.  Para registrarse como voluntario: AQUI.

• Domingo 5 de junio a las  6:30pm - En el área de fogata de la playa de Lighthouse 

Se proveerán  S'mores y leña.  Las familias están invitadas a llegar un poco antes para tener un picnic. 

• Martes 7 de junio a las 9:30am en el Huerto de Dewey

Ceremonia de reconocimiento de 5to grado.   

• Junio 7 a las 11am en Mason Park

Picnic familiar para los estudiantes de 5to grado.

Se acerca la fecha para la carrera divertida de Dewey. El  viernes 20 de mayo de 5:30-7:30 PM 

¡Un saludo a todos los tigres de Dewey!  La carrera divertida es uno de los eventos de recaudación de fondos más grande y divertido de nuestra comunidad.  Estamos felices de poder celebrar en persona este 20 de mayo de 5:30-7:30PM.  Habrá una ruta de ⅛ de milla marcada en el campo de Dewey donde los estudiantes podrán correr y tratar de superar sus propios records.  Habrá también juegos, comida y muchas cosas más.  Se sugiere un donativo de $5 por persona o $20 por familia, pero no es requerido para participar.  Esperamos verlos a todos en la carrera.   

Habrá más información que se enviará a casa en la mochila de los estudiantes incluyendo una forma para recolectar donaciones de amigos, familiares y vecinos.  Se puede también registrar en línea:  HERE.

Buscamos a voluntarios para el Comité de Liderazgo del PTA 2022-2023 ^ACTUALIZADo

Hay 3 roles muy importantes que se necesitan llenar para el año que entra.  ¡NECESITAMOS AYUDA!  Se requiere computadora y habilidades computacionales. 

Soporte para la página web 

• Ayude con el contenido y ajustes necesarios a la página web de Dewey.  
• 5-10 horas en agosto 
• 2 horas al mes de September-May

Diseñadores gráficos 

• Crear el boletín que se distribuye semanalmente con la comunidad de Dewey a través del correo electrónico.
• 1-2 horas por boletín 

Administradores de redes sociales 

• Subir actualizaciones frecuentes en la página de facebook del PTA de Dewey y en Slack. 

Tenemos posiciones adicionales para las que se necesitan voluntarios: Comunicaciones, Equidad, Diversidad, Inclusión y Pertenencia (EDIB).  Por favor, no dude en contactarnos si está interesado en participar como líder del PTA.  Queremos incluir voces diversas para construir comunidad y enriquecer nuestro esfuerzo.

Venta de plantas a beneficio del Distrito 65  ^NUEVO

La primera venta anual de plantas nativas del Proyecto de Equidad del PTA (PEP) se llevará a cabo el sábado 14 de mayo de 10 a. m. a 1 p.m. en el almacén del Distrito 65 (2017 Greenleaf St., Evanston). Muchas plantas, arbustos y árboles nativos estarán disponibles para la compra ese día. Todos los que hayan ordenado sus plantas por adelantado también podrán recoger sus plantas.  Para ver una lista de las plantas disponibles para la venta, visite: https://go.rallyup.com/district65plantsale y haga clic en "Buy Items".

Las ganancias de esta venta de plantas ayudan a financiar a cada escuela del Distrito 65 a través de la iniciativa del Fondo Singular (One Fund).

D65 PTA PEP Fest  ^ACTUALIZADO

Estamos registrados para atender una mesa durante el festival de PEP el sábado 4 de junio.  Estamos buscando voluntarios para ayudar en turnos de 1.5 horas de 10:30 am-6pm.   Vamos a tener una mesa donde venderemos artículos promocionales de Dewey, quizá venderemos snacks o bebidas y proporcionaremos algún tipo de actividad de arte para la comunidad.  Se aceptan sugerencias sobre ideas.  Además si usted tiene algún negocio y desea ser patrocinador, colaborador o donar algo para la rifa por favor déjenos saber.  Queremos representar a nuestra escuela en esta actividad que promueve la equidad y la colaboración en nuestra comunidad.  Participarán personas de toda la ciudad y será una excelente oportunidad para conocer gente nueva  y colaborar.  Habrá más información más adelante.   Por favor escribanos con ideas para participar:   DeweyTigersPTA@gmail.com y para registrarse a participar SIGN UP GENIUS.

Colecta de pañales y comida de los Dewey Doers una actualización ^NUEVO

Recibimos una carta de la organización Bundled Blessings agradeciendo por el trabajo que hizo la comunidad de Dewey y los Dewey doers y la incluímos a continuación.  

¡Que increíble contribución hicieron Dewey y los Dewey doers a nuestra organización!  Queremos decir muchísimas gracias a todos los que contribuyeron en la recolección de pañales.  ¡Son lo máximo!  Se recolectaron  1,856 pañales que serán empaquetados y se distribuirán a las familias que lo necesiten.  El equipo terminó empacando 11,030 pañales y formando 239 paquetes.  ¡Muy emocionante!  Es la mitad de lo que necesitamos para el mes.
