MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
In collaboration with the University of Chicago and the State Board of Education, we have a new opportunity to reflect on the work we are achieving at Dewey. The 5 Essentials Survey is a research based tool designed to collect your input on various aspects of our school community. The results of the survey will be used publicly and in our school improvement planning, but your responses will remain anonymous. Please visit this website to submit your input at https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. There is a language option to take the survey in English or Spanish. March 12th is your chance to shine for your kids!
Next Tuesday’s March 12th PTA meeting is your opportunity to step up and make a difference. This week an invitation/information flyer will be coming home. Browse the open positions and decide how you would like to help sustain Dewey School as the special place where all our children learn and grow.
March Birthday Books Celebration
The Birthday Books celebration for March birthdays will take place on Thursday, March 21st from 3:00pm - 3:35pm in the Dewey Library. Birthday Books is a fun way for your child to celebrate his or her birthday by being the first child to choose and check out a new book and getting a personalized nameplate in the book to dedicate the book to the Dewey Library in honor of his or her birthday.

Dewey Parent Social Being Rescheduled
This event, which is listed on the school calendar for March 9 is being rescheduled. More details to come.
Calling All Proctors for ISATs:
It’s that time of year when once again our wonderful parents/guardians come forth to help with our standardized testing. ISAT exams take place March 11th to March 20th. Dewey has 80 slots to fill with proctor volunteers. Please contact Pam, if you can donate your valuable time, 847859-8143 or shafferp@district65.net. Each exam is one hour long and we would like you to arrive 10 minutes early to familiarize yourselves with the proctoring guidelines. If you can sign up for more than one exam, that would be very helpful. The only
restriction is that a proctor cannot be in an exam at his/her own child’s grade level.
There are four slots at every grade level exam time. The schedule is as follows:
THIRD GRADE: March 11, 12, 13, 14, & 18 @ 1:30-2:30;
March 20 @ 9:30-10:30
FOURTH GRADE: March 12 @ 9:30 & 12:15;
March 13 @ 12:15;
March 15 @ 9:30-10:30 & 12:15;
March 18 @ 12:15-1:15;
March 19 @ 9:30-10:30 & 12:15-1:15
FIFTH GRADE: March 11 @ 9:30-10:30;

Nominate an Outstanding Volunteer
Honor an outstanding PTA volunteer from your school community by nominating him/her for the 2013 Phyllis Ganser Outstanding PTA Volunteer of the Year Award. All of our Evanston/Skokie schools have many exceptional volunteers. A nomination for this award is a special acknowledgment of dedication and service. The committee is looking for nominees who meet the criteria listed on the attached nomination form. See flyer.
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Penny Park Improvement Meeting
City of Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department invite you to attend a public meeting regarding potential improvements to Penny Park. Thursday, March 7 at 7:00pm at Perla Cafe, 1813 Dempster St. Meeting purpose is to reunite members of Penny Park's original community group and discuss potential park and playground improvements with Alderman Peter Braithwaite and City of Evanston staff. School Board Elections Are Coming Up!
On April 9, Evanston residents will elect school board members for both District 65 (elementary and middle schools) and District 202 (Evanston Township High School). These new board members will be responsible for many decisions and policies that will have an impact on our children while they are at Dewey, when they go to middle school, and even when they reach the High School. Take a few moments to learn more about the candidates, and consider attending one of several candidate discussions. La reunión de PTA el martes que viene, el 12 de marzo, es su oportunidad de distinguirse y contribuir. Esta semana una invitación/volante de información vendrá a casa. Eche un vistazo a los puestos disponibles y decide cómo le gustaría ayudar a apoyar a Dewey School como el lugar especial donde todos nuestros hijos aprenden y crecen.
La celebración de libros de cumpleaños de marzo
La celebración de Libros de cumpleaños (Birthday Books) para los cumpleaños de marzo tendrá lugar jueves 21 de marzo de las 3:00 pm a las 3:35pm en la biblioteca de Dewey. Libros de cumpleaños (Birthday Books) es una manera divertida de celebrar el cumpleaños de su hijo o hija. Su hijo escoge un libro nuevo de la colección y le ponemos una etiqueta al libro que reconoce su donación en honor de su cumpleaños.

La reunión de padres de Dewey se cambiará la fecha

LLAMANDO A TODOS LOS SUPERVISORS PARA LOS EXAMENES ISAT
Ha llegado el momento una vez mas en que requerimos la ayuda invaluable de nuestros fabulosos padres/tutores para los exámenes estandarizados. Los exámenes ISAT se realizarán del 11 al 20 de marzo. Dewey tiene 80 vacantes que deben llenarse con supervisores voluntarios. Por favor contacte a Pan si usted puede donar su valioso tiempo 847859-8143 o shafferp@district65.net. Cada examen tiene una duración de una hora y se requiere que usted se presente 10 minutos antes para familiarizarse con las guías y protocolos. Si usted puede registrarse para supervisar más de un examen
sería de gran ayuda. La única restricción es un supervisor no puede estar en un examen del nivel de su propio hijo/hija.
